INSIGHTS

Marketing Has the Power to Change the Narrative. Are We Using It?
Every March, my feed turns purple with celebration, but real progress is built on what we do when no one is watching. As International Women's Day approaches, I am challenging myself (and you) to turn intention into action.
As a marketing consultant, I reflect on this often because we are uniquely positioned to drive meaningful change.
We're in the business of shaping perception. But will we use that influence to open doors for others—not just in our client work, but in how we show up for each other every day?
Why Marketing Has a Unique Role to Play
The best marketers I know do more than reflect culture; they help shape it. They determine whose stories are told, which voices are amplified, and how audiences see themselves in the work.
This influence is significant. On a day like today, it is important to recognize both the privilege and responsibility it brings.
What #GiveToGain Means in Practice
This year's theme is not just a tagline; it is a directive. Here is how I am applying it in my own practice:
Be intentional about whose stories you tell. Representation in campaigns is not only the right thing to do; audiences notice, and it builds deeper trust.
Question the assumptions in every brief. When a client defines their 'target audience,' examine the supporting data. Fresh perspectives often lead to better results.
Use your platform deliberately. The voices you reference, the case studies you share, and the work you promote are editorial decisions that have a cumulative impact.
Back yourself. For consultants, especially women new to self-employment, recognizing your worth and pricing accordingly is a bold way to give to gain.
Celebrating Progress While Pushing Forward
There is much to celebrate: more women in leadership, more diverse creative teams, and brands willing to tell authentic stories. The industry is changing, and so are we.
The best organizations do not coast on progress; they build on it, connecting external messaging to internal culture. That is where marketing becomes truly transformative.
This alignment is where the most impactful work occurs and where marketing achieves its greatest impact.
The Consultant's Advantage
What I value about self-employment is that every decision is mine, from choosing clients to advocating for causes and determining how I present myself.
This is not a burden; it is leverage.
This International Women's Day, I pledge to use my influence more intentionally: one story, one platform, one opportunity at a time. Will you join me?
Happy International Women's Day! How will you #GiveToGain this year? 💜
